In 2013 we let the world know Twitter is an amazing frontier for creative connections and artistic communication. We curated a list of Washington, DC-area artists. There was no limitation to medium or experience. This list represented a group of DC-area artists who are working to connect with the world. There’s a wide range of work and it’s all connected via geo-location and Twitter.
Why do this? More than half of the U.S. population has a smartphone. There are more than 645 million Twitter users. With these numbers, the potential for creative connections for artists at no cost is astounding. With the right energy, we can connect with millions of people.
We are excited to announce our second social media show — #WeTweetArt V2.0. Last year we met to celebrate the growing connection of artists and art lovers on social media, and we’re doing it again!
Via Twitter we invited artists to join us for a mass art installation in the artdc gallery. This exhibition was an open call for art for DC-area Twitter users. It represents just a tiny cross section of what’s out there. Find our Twitter activity here.
Our reception / TweetUp on March 22 will be an opportunity for a public face-to-face, to bring the life of our art and relationships on Twitter to social media at through live tweeting.
Artists will tweet images of their work in the show, on the night of the reception, which will act as a show catalog. When a patron attends the show, they can use their smartphone to look up an artist’s profile, find more about their work and potentially develop a relationship or buy a work of art. Meanwhile artists can comment and connect with other patrons face-to-face and on the Internet.
